From China we have received some very interesting and inspiring ideas:
Can we think of people or classes of people who have a pivotal effect in helping us with the color Orange movement? I have 3 examples.
1. Although we don't agree with independence of Tibet (we agree that Tibet should be a truly autonomous region within China, and both the Dalai Lama and the Chinese government say that is what they want), we remember very clearly the political statement Richard Geer made in the Oscar Award ceremony some years ago. Don't you remember, too? If there is going to be an Oscar Award ceremony this year, what an impact on the world would it be if you can lobby a winning artist to wear a T-shirt with the slogan "To the Beijing Olympics in orange" or the like, and saying a few words about supporting Human Rights in China with the color orange! Can you get somebody to get somebody to get somebody to make that happen? The chances are not very slim, as a considerable portion of Hollywood artists do have a tradition of sympathizing with good causes. In this year of the Beijing Olympics, what better cause is there than the color Orange movement?

2. The next best class of publicity people is the top sportsmen and sportswomen of the world. Can you lobby likely Olympic winners in Denmark to speak (and act) for the color Orange movement? A number of countries could have more sportspersons willing and daring enough to speak up and act at crucial moments --- Germany, Australia, Poland and other East European countries come to my mind. Can you target them in your lobby efforts, or at least through Human Right groups in those countries? Or generally throw the idea to all the NGOs you're in contact with?
3. Do you remember the advertisement "United Colors of Benetton"? If we could convince any casual wear house or fashion house to implicitly or explicitly help the color Orange movement, it would be a windfall for us --- their multi-million dollar advertisement budget may spread the message far more far and wide than the efforts of NGOs. Or, enterprises like The Body Shop may be approached, since they pride themselves with their social concern. (E.g. promoting orange lipstick or an orange dot on the forehead Indian style, or an orange stripe across the face American Indian style?) Or are there still other big enterprises in still other trades that boast of social concern for the people of the world? I understand every big enterprise is eyeing their further expansion in the China market and hence becoming timid. But could there by some niche somewhere? Would their popularity in the world market (bird in hand) outweigh their future profit in China (bird in bush)? Or is there any fashion house or cosmetic brand that has already been declared persona non grate by China? Worth some thoughts. The Hong Kong Alliance, China
